Every term, in plain English.

Writing a book with AI comes with its own vocabulary. Here is all of it, without jargon, so nothing in the writer gets in your way.

Planning your book

Brief: The set of answers you give before writing starts: the idea, who it is for, the tone, the length and anything to avoid. A fuller brief produces a book that needs less rewriting.
Outline: The chapter-by-chapter plan produced from your brief. You approve it before a single chapter is written, so a wrong turn costs seconds rather than a whole manuscript.
Perspective: Who tells the story: first person (I), second person (you) or third person (she, he, they). Memoirs usually use first person; business books often use second.
Tone: The feel of the writing — warm, plain, funny, formal, urgent. Tone is applied consistently across every chapter rather than chapter by chapter.

Chapter: One self-contained section of the manuscript. Chapters are written in order, each with the earlier chapters in mind, so the book holds together.
Manuscript: The complete text of your book before it is exported. In BookForge the manuscript is always editable — nothing is locked.
Rewrite, shorten and expand: Three focused controls applied to a single chapter. Rewrite keeps the meaning and changes the words, shorten tightens, expand adds depth without padding.

Version history: Saved snapshots of your manuscript. If an edit goes wrong you can compare and restore an earlier version.

Daily word allowance: How many words you can generate in a day. Writing is charged by the amount of text produced, which is why allowances are measured in words rather than in books.
Cover generation: Creating cover artwork from a description. Each cover is a separate image generation and costs noticeably more than a chapter of prose, so covers stay optional.
Export: Turning your finished manuscript into a file: PDF for printing and reading, EPUB for e-readers, Markdown or plain text for further editing.
Read-only link: A private web address you can share so someone can read selected chapters without an account. You can revoke it at any time.

Originality: Every book is written fresh from your brief rather than assembled from existing books. Two people with the same idea will not receive the same manuscript.
Ownership: You own what you write here, including the text and any covers you generate. You can publish it, sell it or keep it private.
