Writing for a specific age group

Age is not only about hard words. It is about sentence length, how much is explained, and how much discomfort a story can carry.\n\nFor readers aged five to eight, keep sentences short, keep one idea per sentence, and let illustration carry mood. For nine to twelve, sentences can lengthen and stakes can sharpen, but resolution should feel earned and safe.\n\nTeen readers want honesty more than protection; they notice when a book flinches. Adult readers want specificity — the exact street, the exact smell, the exact wrong thing said.\n\nWhen you set the age group in your brief, the writing engine adjusts all of this at once.
